Rix and Kay Portal

Company History

The firm started in 1948 when John Rix opened an office in Uckfield.  Shortly afterwards he took over the Practice of Charles May & Son.  In the early 50s he was joined by Donald Kay.  The Practice name was changed to J M Rix & Kay.  The firm's second office was opened in Heathfield in 1955.  There was little growth in the firm until 1970 when a third office was opened at Eastbourne although this was subsequently closed in the 1990’s.  Since the early 70s there has been considerable expansion in the Practice to its present size.  The firm is now known as Rix & Kay Solicitors LLP.

The principal Uckfield office, known as ‘The Courtyard’, is a new purpose built property linking with the High Street and the Uckfield Office Village.  It was constructed in 1997 on the garden area of our previous office which was formerly the home of the founder of the firm. Further offices have been added to cater for the recent expansion of the firm.

The firm's office at Seaford is at Paignton House, Warwick Road in a very prominent corner location.  The offices are spacious and well equipped.

The firm's roots are those of a traditional family practice and even today the majority of work done by the firm is for private clients.  The firm is particularly strong in Private Client and Matrimonial work.  Commercial work is growing in the Practice as is the fast expanding Civil Litigation Department.  Areas targeted for growth over the next few years include services for the elderly and more commercial work.

The firm aims to become the best medium size Practice in Sussex.  It is committed to providing a quality service to both private and business clients.  An ongoing programme of staff training at all levels and the use of information technology to improve efficiency are just two of the ways by which the firm aims to achieve its goals.
